itchy tattoo after several months?

I have had my tattoo for quite some time now… its on my back…. whenever i scratch my tattoo just a lil, it sets it off! and when its set off, it itches sooo bad….and a scratch wont fix it, it has to like die down, or i have to gently massage it with something like lotion, vasiline or something, but that doesnt always work…The itch is so bad to the point if i tried to sat and ignored it, i could almost cry lol it itches that bad… so when i shower i gently wash my back… any type of scratch feel done to it will set it off.. its bad! is there anything that can stop this? i've had this tatoo over 6 months now.
